Jimin Lee will be pursuing Neuroscience on the pre med track, with the possibility of adding a minor in Visual and Media Studies.
During her time at Lincoln, Jimin was especially influenced by Ms. Hope, her art teacher. She explained: “Creating art has always been something very important to me, but she helped me see how I could use it for something bigger. She helped me cultivate the idea of ‘artivism’ and using creativity to speak up about issues I care about, encouraging me to express my thoughts and values by sharing my artwork with different organizations, exhibitions, and contests.” With Ms. Hope’s support, Jimin started the Artivism Club at Lincoln, which remains one of her proudest legacies.
Her favorite extracurricular, was the Lincoln Girls’ Tennis Team. Jimin described it as a source of balance: “Even though it took hours of my time after school, tennis always felt like a respite from the often stressful nature of school and life, and helped me find balance when I needed it the most.”
As for accomplishments, Jimin is proudest of the impact she has made as a graphic designer and artist. “Though graphic design started off as a small hobby I kept mainly to myself, I have now developed a love for sharing my art for larger causes and platforms,” she explained. This past year she completed her first paid project, designing a magazine for the Food Empowerment Project, an advocacy group for food justice and veganism. She also created graphics for the Portland Youth Climate Strike, helping raise awareness and mobilize her peers. “It is a great feeling to engage with local and larger communities in a way that is personally so meaningful to me!”
Congratulations, Jimin, we’re excited to see how you continue blending science, creativity, and activism in college and beyond.
